Historical documents belonging to the Algarve’s oldest wineries are due to be donated to the Lagoa municipality on Wednesday, November 14.

The archives and bibliographic records of the century-old wineries of Lagoa and Lagos, which are part of the assets belonging to Única-Adega Cooperativa do Algarve, are considered of “priceless value not only due to the memories that they evoke in Lagoa and the Algarve but also because they offer a glimpse into the history of Portuguese winemaking in the second half of the 20th century”, Lagoa council says in a statement.

Única also has in its possession a “vast collection of winemaking equipment”, which was once commonly used but has since become obsolete due to the technological evolution of winemaking techniques.

Plans are to eventually open a museum at Única’s premises in Lagoa to give the public a chance to admire these valuable assets.
