With the situation in Venezuela becoming ever more precarious, Portuguese authorities have announced this week that there are 18,000 jobs to be offered emigrés fleeing the crisis and returning home. The ISP Venezuela programme will be rolled out in the next few days, secretary of state for the communities José Luís Carneiro has told reporters.

Meantime Portugal is trying to ensure a secure flow of medical supplies to Venezuela while violence is becoming more and more prevalent.

Latest dismal news is that a 36-year-old Portuguese engineer has been assassinated “for motives that are as yet unknown”.

The father-of-three was shot by “several armed men” in Caracas.

According to reports, his family learned of the killing via Twitter.

All the man’s personal documents and money were left at the scene which has led police to discard the theory that the attack could have been a robbery.
