Albufeira’s popular Portuguese Wine Show is returning for its ninth edition this weekend (May 5-8).

Taking place at EMA – Albufeira’s Espaço Multiusos hall – the event hopes to attract around 10,000 people by showcasing hundreds of wines from the Algarve, Trás-os-Montes and every wine region in-between.

União das Misericórdias Portuguesas (UMP), a group of state-funded charitable institutions, will also take part and showcase some of the wine, olive oil and liqueurs it produces.

Wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, wine cocktail workshops, and explanations on how wine bottles can be opened with fire and a sabre are among the activities scheduled.

As always, the Bacchus Wine Competition 2017 will also be attributing medals to the best wines while several other regional specialties, such as cheese and sweets, will be available to taste and buy.

The event is organised by Confraria do Bacchus de Albufeira. Doors open every day at 3pm and close at 8pm on Friday and Monday (May 5 and 8), and at 9pm on Saturday and Sunday (May 6 and 7). Admission is free.
