Loulé’s MAR Shopping was the winner of the Best Property Development award in the category of ‘Commerce, Services and Logistics’ at the SIL property fair which took place in Lisbon on October 3.

The decision was “unanimous” and took into account the development’s “architectural qualities, its design concept and its features in terms of innovation, functionality, urban planning, architecture, structure, energy efficiency and the way it blends within the urban and surrounding landscape, as well as its technical and construction qualities”.

The decision was made by the jury from the Fundação AIP and the SIL Strategic Council, which selects and awards developments in a wide range of categories.

Herman Gewert, MAR Shopping Algarve’s general manager, said he was proud to receive the award “in the name of the Algarve and not just the shopping centre”.

“This region deserves to have projects that are recognised at a national and international level but that, above all, make a difference to the lives of those who reside here and visit us,” he said.

“This is more than a functional building with innovative features; it is a space that knows how to welcome those who shop, who visit an exhibition or simply play with their children at our outdoor playground.”

MAR Shopping is described as a “modern shopping centre with the latest innovative digital features, a new food court concept in Portugal and the first leisure and open-air area of its kind to be integrated into a shopping complex in Portugal”.

The project is also “based on energy and environmental sustainability, featuring some of the latest innovative solutions ever developed for commercial centres”.

It is also described as the “largest and most innovative shopping centre in the Algarve region with both an IKEA and Designer Outlet Algarve”.
