Starting on Friday in Albufeira Marina is the Classic Weekend, promising not just the largest cataplana known to mankind, concerts, parades, a stunning display of classic cars, Harley Davidson motorbikes and ancient fire engines, but a beautiful collective exhibition from local talents who make up the Algarve Artists Network.

This vibrant group involving diverse nationalities will be taking various ‘empty’ shop spaces on Alameda de Orada and transforming them into mini galleries for the three-day event.

Opening on Friday at 2pm, but otherwise running every day from 11am, the colourful shows will be ready to welcome all-comers every day until midnight.

Artists taking part are all well-known on the local creative scene: BJ Boulter, Lottie Klink, Peter de Jong, Nada Mandelbaum, Rosa Pereira, Jill Stott (who runs weekly life drawing classes in Paderne), Jutta Kemler Mertens, Liz Allen, Kirsten Wagner, Brigitte von Humboldt, Mary Hurst and Tom Bund.

The theme for this event is “work inspired by the sea and the marina”.

Admission is free. There will be finger food and light beverages, and for those that require more sustenance, there is that massive cataplana, the proceeds of the sale of which will be going to local firefighters.
