The Algarve is fast becoming a foodie destination with autumn offering many world-class events for lovers of all things gourmet.

One of my favourite events of the year is the “Sensorial Dinner” at the Epic Sana Hotel in Falésia, Albufeira.

Now in its third year, executive chef Luís Mourão and his team pulled out all the stops with the legend of Atlantis inspiring the preview extravaganza. The actual event will take place on November 3 at 7pm and has very limited availability, with only 24 places available at €150 per person.

We were welcomed by hosts, dressed in Grecian robes, who got us in the mood for the theatrical experience ahead.

Two months in the making, the Al Quimia Gourmet Restaurant was transformed into a fabulous stage for the gastro/sensorial sybarite seafood menu that was complemented with beautiful, Portuguese wines and many surprises. The execution was simply fantastic and the atmosphere, contagious.

Having live fish swimming around the table settings and nibbling on algae was a real talking point and something that I've never seen before. Finding little surprises hidden within the underwater table setting with course after course of stunningly delicious shellfish and seafood dishes paired with some very special and rare wines made the event a spectacular success and everyone smiling from cheek to cheek.

The hotel is also hosting a number of wine-pairing evenings through November at €75 per person. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for upcoming events.
