The Angels Theatre Group’s latest production “Great Songs from Great Musicals” raised more than €3,000 for the community in São Brás.

Three nights of full houses at the São Brás Museum provided the delighted audiences with live entertainment in full costume, a bar, and homemade snacks.

The cast of 11 performed vignettes from “Kiss Me Kate”, “Guys and Dolls”, “Oliver!”, and “Les Misérables” plus solos and duets written by Stephen Sondheim. The range of songs, with choreography, included operetta, group harmonies and solo performances.

“The audience were both in tears and laughter at the character roles played out on stage. Some members of the audience thought the live show of such a high quality they presumed the cast were miming to a pre-recording and were amazed when they realised they were not!” said a spokesperson for the Angels.

The funds raised will purchase equipment needed for São Brás firefighters and Mão Amiga programme. This is a scheme sponsored by the São Brás town hall which benefits families in need, as identified by the local Social Services. Partly financed by the municipality, the balance is made up from the private sector.
