Armação de Pêra is hosting its annual ‘Festival da Caldeirada do Mar’ at 13 restaurants between Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 11.

For those who might not know, ‘caldeirada’ is a typical Algarvean dish which usually consists of stewed fish and seafood with potatoes, onions, tomatoes, spices, wine and olive oil.

It is one of Armação de Pêra’s most traditional dishes and is celebrated every year when local eateries cook up their own 'caldeiradas' especially for the event.

This year’s edition was officially presented on Saturday (May 27) at the local market, where free tasting was offered by the chefs of the participating restaurants.

Taking part this year are Churrasqueira Balbino, Marisqueira Hera, A Tasca, Casa D’Avó, Coentros, O Casarão, O Fernando, O Pelintra, Olivalmar, O Silvense, Pôr-do-sol (at the Holiday Inn Hotel), Rocha da Palha and Vista Mar.

Prices vary from restaurant to restaurant.

The event is organised by Silves Town Hall and supported by the Armação parish council.
