Monday, May 7 will be a big day for Algarve wine lovers as Silves will be hosting a wine “symposium” followed by the 11th edition of the region’s wine competition.

The festivities will begin at 9am at the auditorium of the municipal library, where several regional and national representatives of the wine sector will be gathering to share knowledge.

The first speaker of the day will be Frederico Falcão, president of Portugal’s vine and wine institute, who will be commenting on the state of the national wine market with an emphasis on the Algarve, which is the country’s fastest growing wine region.

The second theme that will be discussed will be wine tourism, followed by the promotion and marketing of wines.

On the same day, the Mascarenhas Gregório theatre will be hosting the Algarve’s 11th wine competition which will elect the region’s best wine of 2018 and also award gold, silver and bronze medals.

In last year’s edition, six wines received gold medals and 20 received silver. No bronze medal was awarded as the jury thought that the quality of the products was so high.

Admission to the events is free, although bookings are mandatory.
