The “biggest fish and shellfish freezing factory in the Iberian Peninsula” will open in Odiáxere, Lagos on Friday, July 27.

Representing a €16 million investment, the Congelagos factory is being launched by Grupo Battaglia Capital SA and will be “one of the most advanced of its kind in the world”.

It will be equipped to process 300 tons of fish every day and store 5,400 tons of frozen fish.

“Sustainability” is the company’s ethos, it said in a statement sent to the press.

“We value our workers, our clients, the communities in which we operate and the environment,” said Nuno Battaglia, chairman of the group, who was born in Lagos but spent 27 years of his life in the USA.

“Thus, we seek deals that are economically sustainable and that are beneficial to people and to the environment, which is the case of Congelagos,” he added.

As the group stresses, “fishing is only sustainable if it is sustainable for everyone – the sea, the fishermen, the communities and the market.”
