Saturday (June 16) is the day Carvoeiro will host its hugely popular Black & White Night party, marking the start of the Algarve’s summer celebrations.

The event, now in its fifth year, has built up a reputation as one of the region’s most popular summer parties, having attracted around 30,000 people last year.

Organisers are hoping to at least match that number, and to avoid parking issues on the day, the council will be running a free bus service from Lagoa’s Fatacil, Aldi supermarket and Gramital parking area in front of it, Apolónia and Intermarché, which will function from 6pm to 4am.

The party is taking place in nine different spots in Carvoeiro and will begin at 8.30pm with electronic music courtesy of DJ duo Black and White Living Statues on Estrada do Farol.

Fado singer Teresa Viola will perform twice on Rua do Barranco, starting at 8.40pm and later at 10pm, while harpist Helena Madeira will also take the stage on Rua dos Pescadores at 9pm and 9.45pm.

Other musical guests include cover band Versátil which will perform at Rua dos Pescadores at 9.10pm and at 10.40pm and The Bottles which will bring the best of The Beatles and 60s music to Carvoeiro’s amphitheatre (near the church) at 9.50pm and again at 11.10pm.

Diana Silveira, a finalist of the Portuguese Idols TV competition, will perform alongside her band at 9.50pm on Estrada do Farol.

Two didgeridoo shows are scheduled for 10.30pm and 11pm on Rua dos Pescadores while a performance by Six Irish Men which will bring some classic Irish tunes to the main beach square between 10.50pm and midnight.

Throughout the event, DJ Beecuts will be playing some of the best hits from the 70s to the 90s on Estrada do Farol.

But the event is not just about music. There will be a fire show at 9.20pm and at 10.40pm at the amphitheatre, and a kids’ corner between 9pm and midnight at the beach square.

The party will come to a close with a DJ show on the beach between midnight and 3am led by DJ Alexandre Ramos, who will keep partygoers dancing to the beats of the best summer hits of the last five years.
