Carvoeiro has started building its long-promised open-air auditorium near the local Nossa Senhora da Encarnação fortress. Also on the agenda is a small garden and park.

The work will cost €123,000 and should be completed in four months, says Lagoa council.

Mayor Francisco Martins announced the project in an exclusive interview with the Resident (click here) in 2014, saying the amphitheatre would be “in perfect harmony with its surroundings” and was expected to become a “popular venue, particularly due to the area’s natural beauty where visitors can take in the spectacular sea views”.

Improving the coastal area between Algar Seco and the fort has been one of the council’s main goals for Carvoeiro, having opened a 570-metre boardwalk along the coast in September 2014 (click here).

The boardwalk was warmly welcomed by many, and its spectacular views over the coast saw dozens of people choosing it to view New Year’s fireworks.
