Castro Marim was filled to the brim last weekend (July 21-13) thanks to the “unprecedented success” of its International Snail Festival.

Organisers say thousands visited the town to enjoy one of Portugal’s most traditional delicacies, cooked by national and foreign chefs from Spain, Morocco and France.

There was also musical entertainment with performances by several Portuguese artists, Spanish singer and guitarist Raúl Rodriguez, French tap dancer Michel de Roubaix and Moroccan and Syrian dance group Al-Bashirah.

The event is held on Colina do Revelim de Santo António which boasts an impressive 360 degree view of the town.

Organised by Castro Marim council, the festival aims to establish the town as “the Algarve’s best destination to enjoy snail dishes” while also promoting “traditional products, cuisine and Mediterranean culture”.
