Vila Real de Santo António is hosting the sixth edition of ‘Copa do Guadiana’, described as the biggest youth football tournament in the Iberian Peninsula.

The event started on Monday (June 25) and is taking place until Saturday (June 30), bringing together 184 teams and 3,500 young footballers.

Benfica, FC Porto, Atletico Madrid, Real Bétis, Seville and Malaga are just a few of the world-famous clubs taking part in the tournament, which is being held at the VRSA sports complex, the Francisco Gomes Socorro field and the Monte Gordo sports complex.

Mayor Conceição Cabrita believes that the “Copa do Guadiana is one of the most important sports events of the Algarve” as it is expected to attract over 10,000 people and generate around €2.5 million for the regional economy.

Admission to all matches is free. More information can be found on the event’s website.
