Despite playing some of their best football of the season, Olhanense lost their second consecutive home game when they went down by a solitary to championship favourites Portimonense.

The home should have been a goal to the good just after the half-hour mark when Doudou Mangni had the ball in the net only for it to be ruled out for offside; incorrectly as television replays showed.

Fifteen minutes after the interval, Portimonense skipper Paulinho scored the all-important winner. Pires miss-hit his shot and the ball ricocheted off Paulinho’s shin and over the line, despite keeper Evtimov’s sterling effort to retrieve the situation.

Aldair nearly snatched a late equaliser but visiting keeper Leo made a tremendous save to keep Portimonense well on track for promotion to the Primeira Liga, whilst Olhanense remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table some 10 points from safety.

During the Christmas break, Olhanense beat Lusitania VRSA in a training game, with Cissé, Edgar Abreu and Gonzalez scoring for Olhanense whilst Hudson and Márcio Sousa got the Lusitano goals. On Saturday, Olhanense travel to Penafiel before visiting Coimbra next Thursday to play Académica, with the game being shown live on Sport TV, kick-off at 8.30pm.
