At the opening of a new exhibition at Museu do Trajo in São Brás last weekend, artists Barbara Mountford and Greg MacDonald were introduced by museum director Emanuel Sancho. Complementing the eclectic mix of subjects and painting styles, an unusual aspect of the exhibition is the relationship between the two artists.

Greg is a teacher and Barbara his protégé. Recognising her innate aptitude as an artist, he has coached her over 10 years to become a talented portrait painter working mostly with watercolours. Gradually adapting and improving her painting techniques, additionally Greg’s lessons have presented her with challenges to produce floral compositions as well as charcoal and pencil drawings, also on display.

As a teacher Greg provides a wide variety of stimuli, experiences and materials to extend his students and encourage experimentation.

Greg’s small group lessons take place at Vale Fuzeiros, S.B. Messines, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The exhibition, which runs until November 6, is open every day from 2pm until 5pm.
