Fundraising || A ‘Full Moon Party’ to celebrate the August 10 Supermoon and raise funds for animal welfare was held at the Bela Romão Croquet Club, between Olhão and Fuseta.
Around 60 people attended the event, which was organised jointly by the afpop Eastern Algarve group and the croquet club for the benefit of charity ADAPO (Associação de Defesa dos Animais e Plantas de Olhão).
Some €700 was raised for the local Moncarapacho/Fuseta branch of ADAPO with the money used to treat, sterilise and re-home stray dogs and cats in the area.
After sunset cocktails and canapés served to the sounds of Eastern Fusion Music, Bela Romão Chef Sarah Byrne produced an Indian-inspired menu of slow-roasted lamb balti, chicken tikka masala, Keralan vegetable curry, lemon pilau rice and raitha, followed by a Gulab Jamun dessert.
As well as watching the Supermoon rise, some of the more energetic participants danced the night away to sounds from the 60s through to current day around the pool (and in some cases in the pool!). Finally, a few obliging meteors from the Perseid meteor shower then waved “goodnight” as the evening drew to a close.
