SC Olhanense, SC Farense, Lusitano VRSA and Louletano competed for the inaugural Algarve Football Association Tournament at the Algarve Stadium, Faro last weekend.

The opening game between Farense and Olhanense remained goalless with Farense winning the penalty shootout (4-3).

Similarly Lusitano VRSA and Louletano failed to find the back of the net but the Vila Real de Santo António outfit were successful from the penalty spot winning the shootout 4-2.

Twenty-four hours later SC Farense lifted the trophy after beating Lusitano VRSA 2-0, thanks to goals from Tavinho (10 ') and Jorge Ribeiro (51').

In the play-off for third and fourth place, SC Olhanense beat Louletano 2-1 with Bruno Carvalho (4 ') and Rúben Fidalgo (37') scoring for the Olhão side before Guilherme (49 ') reduced the arrears.

Of the four teams, Olhanense looked the sharpest with their solid defence in which the centre-back partnership of Materazzi and Ivo Nicolau (ex-Portimonense) were particularly impressive.

Olhanense wasted numerous chances in both games and the priority must be to find a centre-forward who can put the ball in the net.

All four teams line-up in the Campeonato de Portugal (Division E) in which Olhanense will entertain Almancilense at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão on Sunday, August 20 at 5.00pm.

On the same day Lusitano VRSA travel to Lisbon to play Casa Pia, Louletano entertain Clube Olímpico (Montijo, Setúbal) and Farense make the trip to Beja to play Moura Atlético.

All games where Algarve teams are at home on Sunday, August 20 and 27 will kick-off at 5.00pm.
