Faro will once again be the “blues capital” of the Algarve as it hosts its international ‘Faro Blues’ festival from May 18 to 20.

The event starts at 10pm at Ginásio Clube with a “showcase gig” by Malaga’s well-known one-man band, Hot Nasho and Himself Orchestra, who goes on to perform at the Lethes Theatre the next day at 9.30pm, taking the stage before Portugal’s own Charlie & The Bluescats.

Saturday night ends with a blues party at Os Artistas led by Britain’s DJ Mike from 12.30am.

There will be two more performances at the Lethes Theatre on Sunday - again starting at 9.30pm - and led by Julio King and the Turbodog Blues Band followed by Felix Slim, the Spanish guitarist who made the finals at this year’s European Blues. Slim will be holding a guitar workshop beforehand at Os Artistas (6pm).

The festival closes with a jam session, again at Os Artistas, starting after midnight.

Tickets cost €20 for all three days or €12 just for one.

The event has been organised by AmbiFaro and the Blues a Sul association.
