It was held for the first time last week and has been hailed a success by organisers for giving startups linked to the tourism sector a chance to pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors and potential partners and clients onboard a boat.

‘Net Me Up’ took place on Wednesday (October 3), having attracted 50 entrepreneurs who pitched their ideas to the jury panel.

Six projects were selected for the final event, a ‘Pitch Dinner’ held at the Belize Café at Albufeira Marina, in a bid to win the €4,000 prize for first place.

The winner of the day was Experience Ware, a Lagoa-based startup that provides an online platform for businesses and events like Aquashow and Fiesa to sell tickets or promote their company.

Second place went to Boubou, a startup from Aljezur that specialises in thematic t-shirts, while third place went to GMT Hospitality, a startup of hospitality industry consultants. Both received €500 each.

“The initiative was a success for all those who took part. They were very satisfied by the synergies that were created between entrepreneurs and future partners and investors,” said Teresa Preta from Territórios Criativos, one of the organisers.

The event is also backed by Turismo de Portugal with the support of Algarexperience and GEN Portugal and aims to bolster and support businesspeople and startup companies that are linked to the tourism sector and could benefit from further investment.
