A new, 100% Portuguese wine bar called Rolha opened in autumn 2017 in the quaint village of Porches. It is charmingly decorated, maintaining the local style with little touches such as locally commissioned pottery pieces and tiles.

Following the success of their Port and Cheese events, they are hosting tasting workshops on the first Saturday of the month at 5pm until March.

The tasting includes four different wines – rosé, sparkling, white and red – and costs €6 per person, lasting around one-and-a-half hours. Participants are then able to buy the featured wines at a special price after the events.

Owner and wine buff, António Teixeira, told us: “The tasting workshops are ideal for people who are looking to learn more about Portuguese wine and understand the different styles and regions, so they feel more comfortable when going to a supermarket or restaurant and know what to choose.”

Rolha, located in Rua António Joaquim Cabrita nº9, is open from Wednesday to Sunday evenings, and all of the wines are available by the glass or bottle and can be paired with a selection of Portuguese ‘petiscos’ (tapas).

Having been closed for holidays, the wine bar is reopening on January 17 at 6pm.
