One minute he was “no longer an arguido”, now he’s back in the hot seat. Former economy minister Manuel Pinho is due to be questioned by DCIAP criminal investigators next week over what has been dubbed “the EDP affair”: suspicions that EDP received as much as €1.2 billion in fiscal benefits while Pinho was at the helm, the latter allegedly receiving substantial financial rewards.

Media outlets differ on some of the details: there are those suggesting Pinho received “around one million euros” between the years of 2006 and 2012, another (Expresso) going for 3.5 million, and citing the years 2002 to 2014.

Further details are expected to emerge following Pinho’s questioning on July 18/ 19.
