HHA members delivering firefighting kits to Olhão Bombeiros

Helping Hands Algarve (HHA) recently distributed reconditioned firefighting kits to fire stations in central Algarve. The charity that supports a variety of local causes was represented by Phil and Jan Garner, who organised the delivery, and other members of the HHA Committee.

The kits, including specialised clothing, boots and gloves, were sourced from a fire service charity in the UK, often for free or at minimal cost.

After time spent on assessing the needs of individual local fire stations, the kits were distributed to the Bombeiros Sapadores and Bombeiros Voluntários in both Faro and Olhão.

The Bombeiros Voluntários in Faro received 50 full sets of clothing and several pairs of boots and gloves, which they said would become their front-line kit. The HHA group was also given a tour of the Faro station.

In the past, HHA has also supplied kits to the São Brás de Alportel fire station while two further pallets of firefighter equipment are to be shipped from the UK in the near future. There are plans at HHA to supply fire stations further afield in the Algarve.

In addition, HHA is currently supporting needy families in the Estoi and São Brás areas as well as a children's home in Loulé.

Anyone wishing to support Helping Hands Algarve is invited to join the next monthly quiz night on Tuesday, July 10, in the old São Brás Freguesia office, opposite the municipal market, at 7.45pm.
