Heaven Inn is the name of a new hostel that has opened in a historic 17th century building in the heart of Évora just a short walk from some of the town’s famous monuments and attractions.

The building is owned by lawyer Eduardo Serra Jorge and has been in his family for generations. It has been completely renovated and turned into a hostel that he proudly considers “among the best there is in Portugal”.

The €1.5 million revamp was led by respected architect Cristina Santos e Silva of Ártica and was backed by the Portugal 2020 programme.

The four-floor hostel is divided into five ‘dorms’ with 53 beds and one double-bed suite. The reception is open 24 hours a day and guests have access to Wi-Fi, breakfast, a shared kitchen, lounge area, terrace and bar with a view of the town. There is also a library to explore and board games to pass the time.

Designed to make guests feel like they are staying in a traditional Alentejan house while also being modern and comfortable, the hostel was renovated using “local techniques and materials such as cork and regional textiles.”

According to Serra Jorge, the hostel is tailored to adventurous holidaymakers who are visiting Évora and the Alentejo but looking for a hostel that is a step above the competition.
