All it will take is a “swipe of a card” at IKEA stores in Portugal this month to help raise money for firefighting brigades.

A new campaign has been launched by Swedish furniture giant IKEA that will grant five cents of every purchase made at one of its stores to a nearby firefighting station. All clients have to do is present their IKEA Family card when making a purchase.

Purchases made at IKEA Loulé will be benefitting Faro’s fire station.

“At IKEA we try to promote responsible management of natural resources throughout our entire business. We know most of our clients also care about the plan, but often do not know how to help,” explained Ana Barbosa, IKEA Portugal’s head of sustainability.

“We hope to get the community involved in this campaign to help local fire brigades so that they will have more resources to tackle fires and protect forests,” she added.

The campaign runs until March 31.
