Anantara Vilamoura has appointed Katja Helena Hekkala as the resort’s new general manager.

With over 20 years of experience in the hotel and tourism industry, Katja Hekkala worked most recently as the general manager of the Vilalara Thassala Resort where she spent the last five-and-a-half years.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and started her career at Starwood at the Sheraton in Stockholm and Oslo, having worked both at the front office and in sales and marketing.

Katja Hekkala was also the executive assistant manager in charge of sales and marketing for six years at the Choupana Hills Resort & Spa (Funchal, Madeira) for nearly six years before moving to Lisbon to work for the Amorim Turismo group.

“Anantara Vilamoura is a very special resort,” said Jorge Beldade, regional director of Minor Hotels, adding that it requires a “focused leader” who is able to “personify the characteristics of this sublime hotel”. He described Katja as “the perfect fit”.

The new general manager said she was “proud and excited” to embrace her new job and join a team of “excellent professionals who make this resort one of the most impactful in Portugal”.

She added that her main goal was to continue establishing Anantara as one of the best luxury resorts in Portugal and the world.
