Lagoa’s popular Christmas fair starts today (December 7) in front of the municipal auditorium where it will remain until Sunday (December 10), bringing the spirit of Christmas to the town.

There will be a live nativity scene, a Christmas parade featuring around 600 children dressed up as Santa, a 10-metre high Christmas tree, the arrival of the Three Wise Men and a fair with around 50 exhibitors.

The Christmas parade will kick off the festivities on Thursday morning, taking place throughout the town’s streets before arriving at the square in front of the auditorium, where the Christmas fair will already be up and running selling a variety of traditional festive products.

The square will also feature a 10-metre high Christmas tree as in previous years.

Street entertainment will be plentiful, with the highlight being a nativity scene featuring live actors and animals, and the arrival of the Three Wise Men on Sunday.

There will also be a train transporting people from several points of the town to the fair between 10am and 5pm during the duration of the event.

The event is organised by the Lagoa and Carvoeiro parish union, which said it had to turn down several exhibitors who wanted to take part in the event due to a lack of space.

“We are already thinking about next year so that the fair can cater to so many requests and so that we can accept more exhibitors,” said Joaquim João, the president of the union.

Meantime, Carvoeiro will also be hosting its own Christmas fair at its beachside square.

Taking place between December 15 and 17, the event will once again feature several exhibitors selling all kinds of Christmas treats as well as a festive entertainment programme including musical performances and parades.
