Lagoa is hosting the third Lagoa Wine Show this weekend (April 28-30) at the Centro de Congressos do Arade in Parchal.

The event is described as “one of the largest of its kind in the south of Portugal” and will feature around 70 exhibitors from all over Portugal as well as tastings, workshops, debates and concerts.

Performers include Portuguese singer Luís Represas (Friday), pop rock group Amor Electro (Saturday) and American jazz pianist and singer Dena Derose accompanied by the Algarve Jazz Orchestra. All concerts start at 9.30pm.

“Wine is part of our identity. Everything we can do to promote our borough, we must do so in the best way possible, we must sell what is ours and, in this case, show the quality of our wines,” said mayor Francisco Martins.

Admission is free but concert tickets cost €10. They can be purchased at, Lagoa’s São José convent, the municipal auditorium or Lagoa’s ‘Balcão Único’.

The event is organised by Lagoa council alongside the Algarve Wine Route (RVA), the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV) and the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA).

It will take place at a time when Lagoa is involved in a bitter row over its decision to register the trademark ‘Lagoa Capital dos Vinhos do Algarve’ (Lagoa, Algarve Wine Capital). Several winemakers, particularly outside of Lagoa, are outraged, saying that other boroughs are “just as worthy” of the title. But Lagoa council says it is simply a marketing strategy (click here).
