A garden party and quiz to raise funds for local causes was organised by the Lions Clube de Lagos at Vila Escarpa, Luz, on Saturday, September 30 - the venue was hosted by Jeannie and David Buckle.

Event organiser and charity trustee Jeannie opened her terrace to the group of 60 members and guests who enjoyed “outstanding views” of the ocean and sunset.

Ulla de Jager, president of the Lions Clube de Lagos, said: “None of this would have been possible without the solid support of the Lions’ members and their guests, who cooked dishes from their homelands and contributed with generous donations.

“More than €1,000 was collected and will be added to our charity fund, as we already have ongoing projects. We are also grateful for the support of the Portuguese community and Lagos town hall.”

The Lions Clube de Lagos meets every second Wednesday of the month at Quinta de Seromonhos, in Espiche. Represented now by nine nationalities and members from every field of experiences, the meetings are conducted in English.

Lions Club International is the world’s largest service organisation in the world, with about 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries around the world.

“As well as support the town of Lagos with humanitarian projects, we also provide a new ground to meet other expats,” said Ulla de Jager.
