In a bid to ease congestion in its check-in hall, Lisbon Airport has opened a new area where passengers can deliver bags and check themselves in.

The “self-check in” section adds another 30 counters to the current 112 and represents an investment of around €11 million.

Said airport director João Nunes, this is the latest solution for dealing with increasing demands on an airport “close to its limit of capacity”.

Meantime, Jornal Económico confirms that the long-mooted expansion to Montijo now has a time-scale: work will start this year, and the new complex - promising 20,000 new jobs - should be in full operation by 2022 (click here).
