How can it be the end of May already? The strange weather that we endure nowadays seems to ricochet us from winter rain and cold straight into the middle of summer, forgetting all about spring.

Agricultural boost
Less than a 10 minute walk from our house, at the top of a hill, is a patch of land, overgrown with brambles and stinging nettles. It has been that way for at least 10 years with sunlight only reaching the soil for a brief few months after the forest fires that swept through the mountain a few years ago.

Sunday 7th MarchWhen we first bought our farm in Monchique, the land was pristine, containing no hint of what was to come. We arrived on a sunny day in May 1987 and were shown around the land by the family who were tenant workers.

Friday 1st January 2010Well at least that’s all over for another year. Torrential rain, biting winds and a general feeling of dampness meant we saw the New Year in with as much eagerness as a turkey greets Christmas. Any turkey other than ours that is.

Could you really live in a car this ugly?
Rather an eventful day today. My friend borrowed my car this afternoon and then rolled it down a hill. Thankfully, he was unhurt. The same cannot be said for the car, which was written off. Volvos are renowned for their strong construction. A similar accident in a lesser car would have led to serious injury or worse.
