A 67-year-old man is reported to be fighting for his life after being discovered early this morning in a burnt out car on scrubland in Loulé.

According to reports, the injured man suffered serious burns and appears to have been shot in the head.

Very little information can be confirmed other than the fact that PJ police are investigating, and the man himself has been airlifted to Lisbon’s Santa Maria hospital.

The incident was called in at around 9.30am this morning, and took place “not far from Loulé fire station”, reports CMTV.

Updates suggest the man is a businessman in the restaurant sector, and lives in Loulé.

Updates say the injured man is restaurateur Manuel d'Almeida who lives in Loulé and runs the O Manel restaurant that has, in the past, been the target of vandals.

Police are said to be looking into the possibility that this incident could have been a "settling of scores".
