Businesses in Monchique are starting to reopen following the devastating fire that ripped through the borough.

The Villa Termal Caldas de Monchique Spa Resort reopened on Monday (August 13) after receiving an official ‘okay’ from the civil protection authority and Bombeiro firefighters.

The resort said the fire did not damage any of its facilities and thanked all emergency forces for their firefighting efforts and support.

Reopening on August 16 is the Macdonald Monchique Resort & Spa, which closed for a week due to the threat of the flames.

“Although the hotel was never in any imminent danger, the board decided to rehome guests at other hotels in the Algarve so that they could enjoy their holiday in safety, far away from the fires,” the resort said in a statement.

It added that clean-up operations have already been carried out and that the resort can now once again offer guests the “exceptional conditions and quality” it is known for.
