Lagoa council is planning to build a multi-storey car park in Carvoeiro to solve the town’s perennial parking problems.

The beachside village has very limited parking at the best of times, but the issue becomes chronic during the summer season, Lagoa mayor Francisco Martins told borough newspaper Lagoa Informa.

“For 30 years there have been talks about this project,” he added.

The plan is to build the carpark on the site of the village market. But it can only move forwards, Martins suggests, if the current council administration is re-elected (local elections will be held this year in October).

Meantime, the council is still studying how many spaces the car park could have, how much it will cost to build and when it could be completed.

“There aren’t any immediate solutions nor can big investments be made when a project is being developed,” added Martins. “We have to work with what we have now."
