A new Eden Montessori school in Albufeira is now taking applications for the 2018/2019 scholastic year. Eden Montessori International School is the first of its kind in Portugal, offering authentic Montessori education in both English and Portuguese for children in groups of ages 3-6 and 6-9. The school has been created by a group of like-minded families who came together to find alternatives to what mainstream education had to offer to their children. The director, Jacki Silva, is an experienced play therapist, teacher and business manager who is passionate about providing a better education for children in the Algarve.

She said: “At Eden Montessori International School, children are given a firm foundation with values grounded in respect, love and care for all, setting the stage for the world to be a better place. The Montessori philosophy and method has many positive effects on children, including instilling a love of learning, encouraging self-discipline, nurturing self-confidence and independence, and learning through discovery and autonomous choices.”

Montessori differs from traditional schooling in that it is more of an interactive learning environment where children engage with learning materials freely. Learning is self-paced and children have the freedom to choose what activities to do with a qualified Montessori guide/teacher. The multi-age classes enable children to work alongside each other, benefiting both younger and older children.

Eden also provides after-care and extra-curricular activities such as Forest School, yoga, gymnastics, cooking classes, music and dance, and more.

On Sunday, July 15, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, Eden will be holding an open day for interested parents to find out more. The school can found on Estrada de Vale de Pedras in Albufeira.
