A 29-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning after being caught ‘in flagrante’ stealing from a pair of necking tourists on Lagos Praia dos Estudantes.

Say reports, there have been a number of incidents this summer where tourists ‘caught unawares’ in the early hours on local beaches are robbed.

This individual appears to be part of a wider group that up until now has escaped undetected.

The arrest followed a fight in which one of the victims, described as English, chased the older man and managed to wrestle back the mobile phones and other items that had been taken.

The Englishman and his American girlfriend then alerted a PSP patrol which in turn informed Maritime Police and other night-watch authorities in the area.

The 29-year-old was finally caught, identified by both victims and is now facing prosecution, reports Correio da Manhã.
