Husband and wife team Roman (violin) and Milena Simovic (viola) will be giving two recitals this month at Os Agostos country estate, near Santa Bárbara de Nexe.

The Ukrainian violinist and his Serbian-born wife will be performing music by Mozart, Martinu, Hindemith, Ysaÿe and Handel/Halvorsen on February 20 and 22.

Roman Simovic began taking music lessons with his father, the conductor Igor Simovic, and studied at the Cetinje Music Academy, the Academy of Music and Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia and the Moscow State Conservatory, where he completed his Masters Degree. Roman participated in several international competitions winning awards at several including the Lipizer International Violin Competition and the Henryk Violin Competition. In 2010, after playing with Camerata Salzburg, Roman was named leader of the London Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with many well-known orchestras including the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia and the Seoul Sinfonietta.

Milena Simovic was born in Belgrade, Serbia. She completed her Bachelors and Masters Degrees at Belgrade University. In 2011, Milena obtained her Master of Music Degree with distinction at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Whilst there, she collaborated with conductors such as Sir Colin Davis and James Gaffigan, and received coaching from the Belcea Quartet.

Milena is currently the principal violist at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She enjoys a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and teacher.

Organised by Amigos de Música, the concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7pm, with doors opening at 6pm. Entry donation is €25 per person.
