While London is preparing to welcome his successor with a gigantic unflattering balloon, former US president Barack Obama will be getting VIP treatment in Porto today.

He is due to address a conference on climate change for a purported fee of half a million euros (click here).

Reports yesterday claimed “Obama comes to Portugal but almost no one will see him” - referring to the exclusive terms of the visit.

The former head of state will not be giving interviews, either before or after his speech, and there will be no photographs.

He will only be in Porto for “a few hours”, and the event is already fully booked.

TSF radio concludes that anyone who thinks they might like to catch a glimpse of Obama may as well “forget it”.

Readers may recall that Obama has purportedly signed a lucrative contract with Netflix for some form of reality show on his family’s day-to-day and other matters, while his conference talking fees have raised eyebrows since he was paid 1.2 million US dollars for three events on Wall Street.

The huge sums bandied about however have to be set against the former president’s charitable donations, which are believed to be substantial.
