The official numbers are out. An impressive number of over 12,000 people visited Vila do Bispo’s ‘Festival do Perceve’ (Goose Barnacle Festival) this year, enjoying “all the best seafood the town has to offer”.

The number is well up from last year’s 8,000. Paulo Lourenço, president of the Association of Shellfishermen in Vila do Bispo and Costa Vincentina, said the event “surpassed all expectations” and proved that its popularity is growing every year.

He added that the association is already preparing next year’s event in a bid to make it even better than the 2017 edition, which took place between September 8 and 10.

Hopes are that the sea will lend a ‘helping hand’ to make sure there are enough ‘perceves’ to go around.
