Over 300 people turned up for the opening of Arte Algarve’s new Ferragudo art gallery on Saturday, March 14.

The new venue is just off the village’s main Praça Rainha Dona Leonor square, with paintings, drawings and photographs showcased in eight rooms over two floors. The gallery also features a sculpture garden with two terraces.

“There are insects made of old rusty tools hanging on the walls, there are massive ladies overlooking the scenery, marble beauties stand under a “nêsperas” tree, and carved men are piled up in front of an old wall,” says founder Rolf Osang.
The gallery is open every day from 11am– 3pm and 6pm–9 pm.

Meantime, Arte Algarve’s main Lagoa gallery is getting ready to host its OPEN XIII - another massive show of work scheduled to be revealed at 3pm on Saturday, March 28.

Over 50 local and international artists will be taking part, many of whom are already well-known here.

“With nearly 600 works spread over a 3,000-square metre exhibition space, art lovers will have great pleasure in admiring a stunning variety of contemporary art in a unique and authentic environment,” say organisers.

For those who haven't yet seen it, Galeria Arte Algarve is located within Lagoa's historic winery (on the EN125) and is self-described as one of Europe’s most spectacular private art galleries.
