The Hawaiian speciality is a healthy addition to the Lagos restaurant scene

The poké bowl trend arrived in full force in Portugal last year, with numerous restaurants serving the Hawaiian speciality popping up in the country’s capital. Now, these delicious bowls of cubed raw fish, rice and Asian-inspired dressings have arrived in Lagos, courtesy of Poké Lagos.

Opened in late May in Rua Dom Vasco da Gama street, the cosy restaurant is the brainchild of two Belgians, Diego Hoet and Steve Marqué, who fell in love with Portugal during their travels and moved to the Algarve four months ago.
The two friends first tried poké bowls in Bali, Indonesia, and were immediately hooked.

“We thought about starting the business in Belgium, but we wanted to live by the sea and realised the Algarve would be a great choice,” said Diego. “We didn’t have any experience in the restaurant business, but it was a good challenge to do something different.”

Seating 10 people inside and 40 people on its inviting outdoor terrace, Poké Lagos is already conquering customers with its fresh poké bowls, such as Salmon Aloha, Veggie Lover and the cheekily named Chicken Norris. “We feel that this food is a good fit for Lagos, as lots of people here are healthy eaters and do surf or yoga,” said Diego, adding that most diners prefer to make their own bowl.

Poké Lagos is open every day from 12pm until 10pm.
