Portimão will be celebrating its title of ‘European City of Sport’ in 2019 with the “biggest 360º indoor video mapping event ever seen in Portugal”. The event will take place on Friday, January 18 at 9pm at the Portimão Arena.

For those who might not know, video mapping is a way of projecting imagery onto a surface, making virtually any object into a screen.

The show will be presented by Portuguese TV hosts Cláudia Semedo and Pedro Miguel Ribeiro and feature several special guests such as former Olympic champion Rosa Mota and Paralympic champion Jorge Pina.

There will also be two musical performances by world music musician and singer Daniel Pereira Cristo and Portuguese group Amor Electro.

Admission is free although seats are limited and tickets must be requested from the local council.

Portimão was named a European City of Sport for 2019 in January and dubbed by ACES Europe as “an example to follow in the promotion of sports for all”. Thus to celebrate the title, the town will be hosting around 350 sports events throughout the year. The goal is to encourage more people to be active and do sports “no matter their age or limitations.”
