Delicious food, good value and exceptional service

Situated in the centre of Alvor, down a quiet cobbled side-street (Rua do Castelo) and close to the local fruit and vegetable market, is one of the town’s most popular eateries.

Restaurante O Alcaide is a traditional Portuguese restaurant located in one of the oldest buildings in Alvor. In comfortable surroundings filled with rustic charm, the 100-year-old building has undergone a sympathetic re-decoration without losing its historical appeal.

Family-owned, front of house you are looked after by D. Isabel. She and her team stop at nothing to make your dining experience a total pleasure.

The menu is both international and Portuguese and there is a very good selection of wines to accompany your meal. The food where possible is locally sourced and is excellent in both quality and flavour.

Freshly prepared and generous portions, especially noted are the fish cataplanas, prawn and monk fish kebabs and fresh catch of the day. For meat eaters, there is plenty of choice including a beautiful steak, enjoyed by my dinner companion, plus vegetarian and gluten-free options too.

Most of the diners are regulars, which speaks for itself, and it is advisable to eat early or reserve your table, especially in the summer months.

Restaurante O Alcaide is a great choice for couples, groups, and families alike.

The restaurant is open every day except Wednesday from 6pm until 11pm.

Please call 964 277 767 (Isabel) to make your reservation.
