Rosé time

It’s that time of year again, and finally the hot weather has arrived. There comes a time each summer when I am visited by a rosé-loving friend and whilst we enjoy many a bottle of Provence rosé, his visits also inspire me to scour the shelves a little more carefully for new Portuguese rosés.

Last weekend I focused on the sub-€10 price range for one of many barbecues and the rosé that most impressed us was this one.

Last year, I wrote here about the whites from “Rola” and was impressed. The unusual bottle shape and elegant label make this an attractive wine to serve and the pale salmon pink hue makes it all the more attractive.

But I often find that these pale pink Provence-style rosés either taste of very little or are a tad too sweet for my taste. But not this one. Here we have a rosé costing €7.99 that can hold its own against many of the imported rosés costing a great deal more. This is an elegant wine in every way; subtle red fruit notes on the nose, a slight creaminess in the mouth, full of flavour, with a touch of tannin providing a nice dry finish. This will definitely be one of my go-to rosés for the rest of this summer.
