Around 33,000 people visited São Brás de Alportel’s ‘Feira da Serra’ which was held in the small central Algarvean town between July 26 and 29.

Organised every year to promote the Algarve’s local traditions and produce, the fair’s main theme this year was the carob - used in so many delicious regional recipes, often as a healthy substitute for chocolate.

São Brás council celebrated the event’s success saying that “not even the less than favourable weather or competition from other summer events around the Algarve” kept visitors away.

Said mayor Vítor Guerreiro: “It truly is the biggest event of the municipality.”

“It’s been around for 27 years to preserve and value traditions in São Brás de Alportel,” he said, adding that it is the council’s obligation to continue investing in the event as it helps power the local economy.
