Algarve wine is the main theme of São Brás de Alportel’s 26th ‘Feira da Serra’, starting today (Thursday) and running until Sunday July 30.

“We want to showcase Algarve wines, which are normally the last ones to be displayed on a shelf,” said Gilmar Birto from the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), pre-presenting the event alongside São Brás mayor Vítor Guerreiro at Forum Algarve’s FNAC store.

Visitors will be able to taste a variety of local varieties and learn about their history and making.

‘Feira da Serra’ is an annual event that showcases regional products.

Its budget this year is €210,000, up €45,000 from 2016.

“We have exceeded the €200,000 mark for the first time, but it is an investment that is important for the local economy because it pays off the rest of the year. People who come to ‘Feira da Serra’ return later to visit us and buy our products,” said mayor Guerreiro.

The fair will also present the borough's new website ‘Visit São Brás’ , designed to promote the rural area even further.

With a musical programme involving Portuguese pop idol David Carreira (Thursday), Fado singer Cuca Roseta (Friday), singer/songwriter João Pedro Pais (Saturday) and Roberto Leal (Sunday), there will also be a crafts section, a fashion event and entertainment for children.

Daily tickets cost €3,50 with a four-day ticket available for €10.
