A massive three-storey homage to the work of Algarve firefighters has been taking shape over in Silves and is now “almost ready”.

The dramatic image of a blazing nightscape, firefighters at work and a female firefighter in full gear breastfeeding her child is the work of local graffiti artist Filipe Neves, who goes by the name of Dgiphi.art aka ASUR1.

Dgiphi’s dramatic style and wild colours are already well-known in the region: he painted a mural for Albufeira bombeiros last year, and has executed numerous others.

He has work throughout Portugal and beyond, and uses his talent to create logos, design shop fronts and promote festivals.

For Silves Bombeiros, the heroic painting - executed with the help of several engines’ mobile extension ladders - is “recognition” for all the ‘jobs well done’ safeguarding the lives and property of fellow Algarvians.
