One of Portugal’s favourite summer-time snacks, snails cooked in salty boiling water, seasoned with garlic and oregano, will be served at Faro’s ‘Festival do Caracol’ taking place from May 24 to 27 at Jardim da Alameda.

Visitors are invited to try not only many dishes featuring “the mighty snail”, but also a variety of street foods, homemade ice-creams, crepes and sweets.

There will also be a handicraft fair, bouncy castle and other fun activities for children.

The event is organised by the parish union of Faro and aims to support local IPSS (private institute of social solidarity).

Admission is free. Doors open at 5pm and close at midnight.
