Gastronomy, tradition and culture will be the three key “ingredients” of the Aljezur Sweet Potato Festival to be held between November 30 and December 2.

Taking place at the town’s Espaço Multiusos, the festival will aim to highlight what makes the local sweet potato so special. There will be four restaurants serving dishes using the famous ingredient and several stalls and street food trucks serving snacks and “lighter” sweet potato creations.

Craft beers made with the tubers, sweet potato cakes and even sweet potato ice-cream are among the mouth-watering creations that visitors will be able to enjoy.

Chefs will also be making an appearance to show visitors how they can cook what locals describe as the “best sweet potato in the world”. In fact, Aljezur’s gastronomic jewel has been officially recognised as a product with a protected designation of origin.

There will also be over 100 exhibitors taking part in the event, selling “genuine products from the region”.

The event, organised by Aljezur council and the Aljezur Association of Sweet Potato Producers, will open at midday on all three days, closing at midnight on the first two and at 10pm on the last.

Admission is free and there is ample free parking.
