December is well on its way and we are soon welcoming 2019. With a new year usually come new resolutions. What about not making new ones but simply focusing on keeping the good habits as a resolution?

There is a new tendency of focusing on the positive and, in that sense, making a list of what makes you happier and healthier is probably a better way to make sure you will follow your own advice. We call it the “non-resolution” list.

The idea is to be more conscious of your habits and reinforce the ones that have a good impact on your health and wellbeing. Moreover, setting objectives that are too ambitious in the beginning of the year may set you up for failure and lead in the direction of lower self-esteem.

The “non-resolution” list encourages us to rethink our lifestyle and to increase our self-confidence. Here are a few of our favourite “non-resolutions” as examples:

Say NO more often
Plan your own activities instead of automatically accepting all the responsibilities that are presented to you. You will then have a more organised and productive life instead of a last-minute stressful life by trying to please everyone.

Make a promise to yourself to continue to do something positive
Instead of listing all your faults and weaknesses, think of all the good experiences you had along the past year. Commit to do more of what makes you happy.

Do something that makes you proud of yourself every day
It can be something as simple as drinking a big glass of water every morning before breakfast, save a little bit of money in a piggy bank, or switch French fries for a salad at lunch time. Keep your daily walks with the dog and on your days off invite the whole family to do outdoor activities.

Why not decide to simply work on your posture?
With a little bit of practice, you can do exercises that help you stay straighter. Pilates or yoga, along with proper chiropractic care, can go a long way.

A good posture will help you to:
■ Look and feel better than usual about yourself.
■ Prevent thoracic and lumbar muscular pain.
■ Reduce wear and tear to your joints
■ Get better energy to do everyday tasks
■ Increase you spine’s resistance and flexibility

If it is difficult for you to keep a proper posture or feel pain doing so, see your chiropractor for a spinal check up. That is a great way to stay well and prevent further injuries or progressive deformities due to a bad posture.

Chiropractic care is proven to be effective in helping reducing pain and preventing spinal degeneration. It helps the body to return to its natural homeostasis state.

Once your body is in alignment, you will feel more energetic and healthier. Your body is an intricate machine and when one part isn’t functioning as it should, it affects all the other parts. Chiropractic can turn that around, helping your body function more effectively so you feel better. This is a great way to maintain your body full of vitality.

In the name of all the team at Algarve Quiroprática, we wish you a happy, healthy and joyful 2019.
